Visiting Swimmers

Welcome to Seattle! We hope you enjoy the sunshine and coffee here. We are excited to meet you and have you swim with us. To swim with us,there are a few hoops we have to swim through,so to speak. But it’s easy.

(1) Contact Orca Swim Team Co-Captains Ryan Robertson and Steven Potokar

Let us know when you want to swim with us (make sure to give us at least 2 days advance notice). Click here to send Ryan and Steven an email.

Ryan and Steven will arrange for someone to meet you at the front desk of the Connolly Center because you must be signed in by an Orca Swim Team Board Member.

Members of IGLA affiliated teams get a complimentary guest pass good for 3 swims. If you wish,you can buy a ten punch swim pass here. You must be a current member of U.S. Masters Swimming and provide your number in order to purchase a pass. If you have questions,contact Ryan and Steven.

(2) Be at the Connolly Center at lease 15 minutes early

It takes a few minutes to fill out the paperwork that will let you swim with us. Please make sure you have your U.S. Masters Swimming membership card with you.

Other things you should bring with you are:

(1) Your Photo ID (Government/Student/Military);
(2) Swim suit and goggles;
(3) A towel;
(4) Your own pad lock if you want to use the lockers in the locker room;and
(5) Your smile.

After we’ve filled out the paperwork,you’ll receive your swim pass. Keep it with you –You must take it out onto the pool deck with you in order to swim.

(3) Get changed in the locker rooms and meet on the pool deck.

The Orca Swim Team Board member who signed you in at the front desk will show you to the locker room where you can change.

Remember to bring your swim pass with you out onto the pool deck. Most of our practices are in the West Pool (Down the stairs).

(4) Meet the Coach

The Orca Swim Team Board member will introduce you to the coach on deck. He or she will help you figure out which lane you should be in.

We have six lanes. Lane 1 has slower swimmers Lane 6 is where our fastest swimmers swim. We want you to be comfortable and get a good workout with us,so talk with the coach so you can find the right lane for you.

(5) Swim your face off

Our coaches provide a coached workout. If you have any questions,ask your lane-mates or the coach to explain what any unfamiliar terms mean.

Don’t be shy about asking the coach about how to improve your stroke or technique. All our coaches are happy to help you out any way they can.

(6) Come back and swim with us soon

We want you to come back and swim with us whenever you’re in town. We also look forward to seeing you at the Gay Games and IGLA Championships anbd invite you to the Orca Swim Team Emerald City Meet in March.
